Zusammenfassung

This volume brings together the latest research, insights, and innovations presented at GEOIndia 2024, the flagship conference of the Association of Petroleum Geologists (APG) India-one of Asia's leading forums for geoscience and energy dialogue. APG India serves as a critical platform for petroleum geologists, fostering international cooperation, scientific discussions, and educational support, all while hosting major events like the GEO India conference series. Edited with the support of the APG Executive Committee and Patron, and published in collaboration with Springer, this book captures contributions from world-class researchers, industry leaders, and emerging voices in the geosciences. This book compiles a wide range of papers that tackle both established and emerging areas within the energy sector, addressing contemporary challenges and pioneering approaches in energy exploration, production, and sustainability. Key topics covered in this book include innovative methodologies in geological and geophysical exploration, energy exploration techniques, advancements in reservoir characterization, and cutting-edge research on unconventional hydrocarbons. Additionally, the proceedings focus on environmental and sustainable practices in energy, underscoring the importance of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), which are pivotal in the global transition toward cleaner energy systems. Exploring New Dimensions of Energy Dynamics serves as an essential reference for academics, industry practitioners, and policy-makers aiming to understand and contribute to the evolving energy dynamics in South Asia and beyond.

The Editors express their sincere gratitude to the Executive Committee of the Association of Petroleum Geologists (APG) and the Patron of APG for their invaluable support and for granting permission to publish the proceedings of the 6th South Asian Geosciences Conference and Exhibition GEOIndia 2024 with Springer. Their encouragement and vision have been instrumental in bringing this volume to fruition.

Dr. Annapurna Boruah  is a senior associate professor at UPES Dehradun with expertise in energy exploration, geosciences, climate action, and educational development in geology and petroleum sciences. She is well-known for her research contributions to CO2 geosequestration, unconventional hydrocarbons, and geological hydrogen. She is also actively involved in key initiatives of Ministry of Education Innovation cell, MoPNG etc. Her research findings have been widely disseminated through esteemed publishers, 50+ research papers, 4 books, 4 patents and many collaborative projects. Internationally recognized, she is invited to deliver talks and conduct courses at prestigious forums in the USA and Europe.

Dr. Ravi Misra  is a distinguished Petroleum Geologist, mentor, and leader with over four decades of diverse experience across domestic and international E&P businesses. He has held leadership roles in ONGC as ED-Chief E&D, Director OAAL, and Director ACP, Colombia, and served as Regional President, Colombia & MECL. His global assignments include Country Manager in Colombia and Project Manager in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Currently, he is Advisor (G&G and Hydrocarbon Efficiency & New Energy) at DGH, MoPNG, following a stint as Advisor (E&P) at IOCL. Dr. Misra has pioneered shale gas, tight gas, and basin-centered gas exploration, published 84 papers, and contributed significantly to energy transition, carbon management, and digitalization initiatives in E&P.

Shri. Gopal Joshi  is currently Head of Institute, KDMIPE, ONGC . He leads multidisciplinary R&D in basin analysis and advanced geoscience, supporting ONGC's exploration goals across Indian sedimentary basins. With over three decades of experience, he has contributed to diverse exploration domains including field geology, reservoir estimation, and technical audits. As Basin Manager - Frontier Basins , he played a key role in the Vindhyan Basin's commercial hydrocarbon discovery, leading to its category upgrade. He also served in ONGC's E&D Directorate  and Director (Exploration)'s office , gaining strategic insight into national exploration programs. A prolific author and speaker, he has published widely and currently serves as Vice President, APG India . His expertise spans oil and gas, offshore, and the application of cutting-edge geoscience technologies to optimize exploration outcomes. Under his leadership, KDMIPE has focused on integrating new technologies and sustainable practices to enhance India's energy security.
