From his earliest years, Dante Fuentes' life was shaped by what one of his admirers called "the Dante Effect." People weren't just drawn to him; they went out of their way to ensure his success. Important art critics, poets and dramatists, acclaimed artists, not to mention his musical contemporaries--all smoothed his path.

All this changed when a military coup brought violence and censorship to Argentina. One by one, his friends and colleagues either fled or faced imprisonment and death if they didn't stay silent.
