Can kitchen robot really outdo Saralee's magical super nose?
Shabbat has just ended and Saralee can't wait for her family's new robotic kitchen helper, Carl, to arrive. Quickly, Saralee's excitement turns to dread. Carl starts copying Saralee's smell magic and cooking talents. How can a robot learn to copy what makes her unique? He doesn't even have a nose! Meanwhile, everybody else thinks Carl is amazing. While Carl's recipes are elegant and delicious, they aren't authentic to Saralee's family or their restaurant.
As Saralee faces questions about individualism and technology's limits, she struggles to find a productive role for Carl that doesn't let him take over. Maybe a little time to unplug on Shabbat will give her the perspective that she needs.
The award-winning Saralee Siegel series provides fantastical fun for readers 8-10, set in a variety of Jewish holidays, including Hanukkah, Passover, Sukkot, Purim, and more, and features universally relatable themes for children of all backgrounds.
