Liam Ó Maoilíosa grew up in County Clare with a deep interest in the darker seams of twentieth-century European history - the revolutions, purges, and social upheavals that reshaped the continent and left behind crimes that took years to name and longer to understand. Educated in Ireland and drawn early to the intersection of criminology, political history, and forensic investigation, he has spent more than a decade researching the criminal cases that communist-era justice systems struggled to confront. The Mrázek case drew him for its extraordinary convergence of individual pathology and institutional failure - a story he came to see as inseparable from the political history of post-1948 Czechoslovakia. He lives in the west of Ireland and writes narrative nonfiction on historical crime across Europe.
