The Mississinewa River and Reservoir with the land and towns surrounding them are filled with the shadows of history and ghosts from the past. All of us grew up hearing those stories and exploring the backroads and cruising the towns, when cruising was a thing. And we all heard the whispers in the deep woods and the haunting songs echoing off the water.
From the time the Myaamia?or Miami?people made their home in the region with villages, encampments, council sites and sacred locations along the river to modern times, the area has been home and perhaps the final resting place of many. Some of those who rest, don't really rest at all...as some of us have found.
In the caverns of the Seven Pillars, the darkness of Slocum Woods, the winding roads of Richvalley and even within the towns surrounding the river there are stories which have been whispered throughout the generations. Unsolved mysteries, unusual experiences, ghostly figures hiding in dark windows and between tombstones and trees. Things that go bump in the night and talked about during the day, you'll find it all within these pages.
