Zusammenfassung

Clear English Pronunciation equips students to communicate effectively in English. Instead of relying solely on native-speaker models, the goal is clear, natural English. The book promotes individualised pronunciation goals rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, encouraging learners to adapt their speech to different communicative contexts and audiences. In addition to examining the production of vowels and consonants, this book explores the prosodic dimensions of English, including rhythm, stress, silences, and intonation.

By focusing on both speech sounds and communicative contexts, learners can develop pronunciation that is both intelligible and authentic, while gaining a deeper understanding of the patterns that contribute to clear and natural spoken language.

Divided into six units, each featuring detailed articulatory explanations, sample sentences, and recordings to help learners improve their pronunciation, this updated second edition:

· offers chapters and units reorganized in accordance with linguistics and pedagogical principles;

· explains how pronunciation interacts with other aspects of communication, with extensive guidance on pronunciation teaching;

· not only focuses on producing speech sounds, but also on perceiving and understanding them;

· offers refined and improved visual systems of target sounds, explanations, exercises, and sample sentences, including explanations of common mispronunciations for English learners;

· explains and illustrates the melody and rhythm that underpin intelligible, natural pronunciation;

· supports students in recognising and practising the pronunciation features most relevant to them.

With its interactive companion website offering updated recordings and expanded explanations, Clear English Pronunciation gives international learners everything they need to strengthen their pronunciation for real-world communication. It is a standout textbook for anyone aiming to speak English with clarity and confidence across diverse social settings.
